The lake lies in a trough below the Ngendelel Escapments, a sheer wall 600 metres (2,000 ft) high. The lake covers 32 square kilometres. Lake Bogoria is a saline, alkaline lake located in the eastern part of the East African Rift Valley in Kenya. It is situated in Baringo County, approximately 285 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The lake is part of the larger Lake Bogoria National Reserve.Lake Bogoria is known for its alkaline and saline waters. The lake's pH level is relatively high, and it has one of the highest concentrations of alkaline minerals among the Rift Valley lakes.

The geothermal activity contributes to the unique chemistry of the lake and creates a visually striking landscape.The lake is a habitat for a significant population of flamingos, both Greater and Lesser Flamingos. These birds are attracted to the abundant algae and invertebrates in the alkaline waters.Apart from flamingos, the reserve is home to various other bird species, mammals, and reptiles.
