MOUNT KENYA 4 DAYS NAROMORU -NAROMORU ROUTE

Climbing to 5,199 meters, Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa. The scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breath-taking. It is pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals, high altitude adapted plains game and unique montane and alpine vegetation. Visitors can enjoy mountain climbing, camping and caving with the mountain’s rugged glacier-clad peaks providing the perfect backdrop.

The park is accessible via Nanyuki-Isiolo road via sirimon Track, Nyeri-Nanyuki near Naro Moru or Chogoria route. It is about 175 Kms from CBD Nairobi

Itinerary at a Glance

DAY 1: Nairobi-Naromoru Park gate

 After pick up from Nairobi, drive to Naromoru park gate take lunch at the gate or on way. We begin our trek via the rainforest, mbamboo forest then to Met station for about  camp for dinner and spend the night at the camp. It’s 3-4 hrs walk.

DAY 2: Met Station (3050m)-Mackinders camp (4300 m)

After breakfast, we walk up the edge of the forest then to health and moorland zone, take lunch at the picnic rock and later proceed to mackinders camp. It’s 11km walk and takes 5-7hrs.

DAY 3: Mackinders (4300 m)- Pt Lenana (5985 m)

Leave the camp at 0200hrs for predawn summit attempt, through the bare rocks and scree on the alpine desert to Point Lenana via Australian hut for 4hrs, enjoy the sunrise from the summit of Lenana peak and a magical view of Uhuru peak from Kilimanjaro on a clear day then later descend to  Mackinders camp  for breakfast and Later proceed to Met Station camp (3050 m asl) a distance of 11 KM where you spend your  last night on mt Kenya after dinner.

DAY 4; Met Station Camp (3050 m asl) -Naromoru National Park Gate (2650 m asl) 10 KM

After taking a delicious breakfast, you descend to Naromoru National Park Gate for 3 hours enjoying stunning view of indigenous forest and  a good game view of herds of buffaloes just as you exit the Gate where you will be picked up by our van back to Nairobi.

Sleeping bags, rucksack, hiking boots and a light trainers shoes, flashlight (torch), warm jacket, Balaclava (woolen hat), several pairs of warm socks, a pair of gloves, Rain jacket and a pair of water proof trousers, freezer or warm sweater(s), 2 water-bottle1.5 liters each, walking sticks, gaiters, light toiletry articles (personal items)
